Outfit Of The Day On The Go

Happy bank holiday everyone! So this is kind of a quick, spur of the moment post which runs along side with a subject I've mentioned before, when I love love LUUURVE an outfit and I just gotta share it. No particular subject matter, just BAM! Killer outfit (in my opinion).

I am OBSESSED (I'm using a lot of capitals in this post, I must feel very passionately about this outfit) with each piece individually I'm wearing. There's a lot of off the shoulder/cut shoulder tops out there at the moment but personally this was the one for me. It's a lil Topshop Boutique number and it's designed to look like a reworked tailored shirt with cuff detailing on the sleeves, giving it a n oh so formal touch. The stripes what I adored most, tones which are spot on  for summer and bring to mind that old England deck chairs. It makes me smile. The soft denim cropped pants are ASOS and are pretty much my staple for summer, no question! Flattering, comfy and they go with pretty much EVERY ONE of my summer tops. Winning! I'm not going to lie I was wearing this exact outfit out before with white Birkenstocks instead of boots and it works a treat as a day time look. Perfect good weather easy peasy outfit! But lastly let's talk about my boots...

Office Silver Metallic Boots of dreams meet everyone, everyone meet my boots of dreams. As I have discussed on countless occasions now I am obsessed, addicted, in love, a collector of, whatever you want to call it, with metallic shoes. And these hit the jackpot! The wooden block heel gives them a lighter, kinda Spring/summer vibe, making them as dressy or as casual as you like. I've work them already to a multitude of occasions from; gigs to nights out, to shopping to brunch. They're money well spent and an investment worth making.

So there you have my swift, on the go post, on my outfit I am wearing right now as we speak. It doesn't get more up to date than that!

Now excuse me whilst I go enjoy the sun,
Sophia x

Bright Eyes. Blue (New) Denim.

So you know when you were younger and your parents or just most adults in general used to say "there aren't enough hours in the day" and at the time that very sentence meant absolutely nothing to you? Well I'm at a stage in my life were that concept is suddenly making a WHOLE lot of sense. The struggle is real. There literally (and I mean literally, literally) aren't enough hours in my days and days in my weeks! This year is turning out to be a pretty hectic one for me, with a whole lot of new, maybe exciting and maybe a little scary changes happening. I say scary, but I guess I only ever mean it in a good way, as I'm learning fast that sometimes you need a challenge every now and then. You know, just to mix things up and keep you on your toes! It's good to always want more and to question what you've already got, I'd hate to categorise myself as a settler... And just as this is my theory on living, I guess it's also my theory on clothes (see how seamlessly and swiftly I turned that very serious and existential speech around and back on to style? Like a pro). I always want more out of my style and I'm always looking to evolve on it. I'm a firm believer in this being the 100% right approach to your wardrobe. Style is trial and error- if it doesn't work, move on (and maybe laugh about it in years to come when you see a photo of your former self wearing oh I don't know... an over sized denim jacket, a Patty Smith tee you'd cut into a crop top and American Apparel disco pants and wonder what on earth was I thinking? I which I was hypothetically speaking).

Up until the last year or so I guess I'd have described my style as a little retro. A lot of the style inspiration I drew upon came from your quintessential sixties icons and by a lot I effectively mean all my inspiration. As much as I still adore this look and will forever lend ideas from retro fashion, I'd like to think I've expanded on it and made it my own. Because isn't that the point in personal style? It's exactly that, personal. The outfit below kind of highlights perfectly the point I'm trying (and possibly failing) to make. Firstly, I want to make it clear that I feel I would have been massively lying to you if I hadn't at some point soon mentioned the jeans I'm wearing below, due to the fact this is my style blog and well, I pretty much live in them at the moment! What on earth would be the point in talking through any of my current outfits if I didn't mention these bad boys?! They're a recent find from Urban Outfitters. Like finding treasure. They have a retro style fit to them; high waisted, wide flared leg, cropped at that awkward George Harrison-esque length of just above the ankle, but with a raw edge frayed hem. They effectively nail about 3 trends in one. The retro element is clearly a sure fire win with me (and I'll be elaborating more on this in my next post which to follow soon, so stay tuned please) but I've given it a more grown up and I guess, modern spin by teaming my new favourite denim with this seasons must must MUST (your life depends on it) have shoe, the glove shaped pump. The comfiest shoe you'll ever wear and a personal hero of mine purely because I adore their almost awkward shape. I'd say they could probably best described as ugly/beautiful? They're dainty and feminine but in a really practical, unsexy kind of way (think stereotypical school teacher/librarian style). I've then gone full circle with my outfit and worn a vintage inspired cream chiffon blouse from Dahlia. The pussy bow tie detailing and frilled over-sized collar are a huge nod to the seventies and maybe even the eighties, but the clean cut of the sleeves and body give it an all round more "now" vibe. This kind of outfit, is an every day look for me at the moment and right this very second I'm absolutely loving the look BUT tenner bet says that in 10 years time I look back on this exact combination; those awkward cropped jeans and my ugly/beautiful shoes and think... "What on earth was I think?!"

That's life.

English Summer... Go Go Go!

11:57:00 Sophia Rosemary 3 Comments

It's sort of here! Hooray, the some what elusive English summer has decided to make an appearance. Quick! Dust off your sunglasses and tan down those pastey legs (which if yours are anything like mine, haven't seen daylight in 9 months minimum and are so white they could reflect light)! Blink and you'll miss it, we have to take English summer where we can get it and this weekend has been a better time than any to get our summer dresses out from hibernation.

Summertime for me is dressing to simplicity, when it's hot outside the last thing I want to do is fuss around with my outfit and so this weekend my favourite outfit was this adorable Liberty print midi dress from Plum & Pigeon accessorised only with my trusty old (well actually new, as my old ones where starting to resemble shoe roadkill... What can I say? They'd been around the block, several festivals, numerous gigs and countless rainy walks around town) high top Converse. Yes, this weekend I actually celebrated the sun by dressing uncharacteristically like a girl! I'm a total sucker for Liberty Print fabric, it's undefeated as champion of floral (Laura Ashley being a close second of course) and there's an authenticity to it that you just can't replicate. The colour palettes used in Liberty print, although some bright, always have a worn in, warm, sun bleached tone which makes them idea for wearing dressed down with your favourite trainer/sneaker (if like me you just can't bare to be too much like a girl) or a low key sandal aka in my world, probably a pair of Birkinstock's.

A floral dress, although nothing ground breaking what so ever when talking about summer time dressing is a festival staple whether you like it or not. It's been tried and tested and whether is a smock, skater or tea dress, floral's win! And I have every intention to wear more outfits just like this one throughout the duration of summer. So please, please, pretty please stay with us sun! Me and my dress collection are counting on you!

Dahlia Saves The Day

Hello hello! Remember me? I'm still here! I feel like it's been so long since I last checked in, which is ridiculous because I have some mega amazing outfits and dreamy photographs (courtesy of my super talented friend Ellen Offredy) just sat desperately waiting to be shared with you! Since my last post I've been kinda busy and as soppy as this is going to sound, I have been dedicating what little spare time I have to actually spending time with my boyfriend and trying to catch his band play in various venues, in various cities as much as possible (the struggle is real). As well as showing my little cheery face at the When In Mcr all-dayer event in... Erm... Manchester (clue was in the title), to show some love to some seriously talented up and coming bands and the four power girls who organised it all (including the very same Ellen who snapped my in the below pictures... Don't worry we will get to those in a mere moment). But all of this darting about has had a knock on effect on my blog and writing up posts, or lack there of and it just won't do! So after a very mini, very unintended break, I'm soooo so excited to show you some amazing snaps I took the other week! Hooray!

Not one for "glamming" it up on nights out I often find it really hard to shop for dressy outfits and I always end up sticking to the same tired formula... Pretty dress (normally of a tea or vintage variety) with an ankle boot of some description and in all honesty, it's not very inspiring. In theory your "night out" outfit is supposed to be you at your best but personally, I feel at my best in casual clothes. I always feel like there's so much more scope with what I wear and how I style it when it's a day time look. Plus if all else fails during the day, I have my trusty stripes and converse combo to always fall back on and it never gets old! It's what I'm most comfortable in... Like a second skin, sort of. One brand which I always feels caters to my "dressing up" woes is Dahlia. A go to for any lover of pretty frilly vintage inspired blouses and adorable baby doll style dresses. The nice thing about Dahlia pieces is, you actually CAN style them up and you won't see about 5 other girls all on the same night out or at the same gig wearing basically the exact same look as you... Nobody wants an accidental twin on a night out. One of my favourite looks I put together from Dahlia is the below, a frilled high neck blouse and dun, dun, DUUUUN... Dressy dungarees?!?! Yes it's a thing and I am so very very grateful they existence. Technically they're more of a pinafore culotte but that's a minor technicality. I've taken the outfit up a dressy notch by adding a metallic Mary Jane (come on it's me, so a metallic shoe is never too far away) but I'm seriously looking forward to wearing these culottes with a high top for when I'm out and about in the day... They are so so comfy! This outfit isn't for everyone but if you're like me and you're stuck in an awkward -Tom Boy trying to dress more like a girl- rut then a look like this could be the answer! Phew!

Catch you very very soon with another key (for me, for right now) look.
