Love Velvet Two Times- Boohoo Winter Collection

I always feel like whenever anyone talks about velvet within Christmas style there's a complete parallel to that one scene in The Devil Wears Prada when Miranda Priestley sarcastically remarks "Florals? For Spring? Groundbreaking!". Ok so velvet and winter are two combinations we've seen year after year for as long as you can remember. Heck! Velvet and Christmas go so far back together, I'd put good money on at least one of the Three Kings having styled it out whilst following that famous star! BUT cliches are cliches for a reason and velvet is a prime example of this. As mentioned in my previous post on Christmas party dressing; Velvet is a fail safe, it will be forever timeless and it's a wonderful way of adding a little glamour to any outfit. Cliche or not, I'm most certainly on team velvet and so with the help of Boohoo's current winter collection I thought I'd talk you through how to wear the- sometimes very tricky- velvet trouser in two very different ways.

Look 1- Day Tripper

There is a common misconception that velvet is best kept for evening wear and this is completely false. Velvet can transform any day outfit into something a touch more luxe! Admittedly there can often be something a little dramatic or "vamp" about black velvet but how about trying a different colour for a more vibrant look? For my first outfit I went for a Wide Leg Trouser from Boohoo in a green velvet, very festive I know. But to tone it down I've teamed it with a classic Boohoo Cream Chunky Knit, rolling up the cuffs and wearing it slightly untucked for that real slouchy, undone look.
This outfit is ridiculously comfy! And I mean "feels like you're walking around in public with your PJs on" kind of comfy, which makes it perfect for Christmas Day and a lifesaver for when you're planning to eat at least three helpings of Christmas dinner (the trouser has an elasticated waist FYI). To finish off my look, I've added some festive flare with gold accessories; From my staple gold boots to these incredible gold Star Earrings from Boohoo which give the overall outfit a seventies glam feel. Green velvet and gold work perfectly together for a really luxurious, rich aesthetic you want from Christmas styling. For me this is most certainly a day time look with a little extra sass added in!

Look 2- Night Fever

For my evening outfit I really like the idea of striping back velvet pants to a more traditional, "tuxedo/black tie" theme. As I mentioned above there is something super dramatic about black velvet which makes it an ideal candidate for helping you create a show-stopping night time look. I decided to take a classic Cigarette Shape trouser and team it with an equally classic Ruffled Blouse, both from Boohoo. Now these two pieces combined can look a little androgynous, which I personally adore but just to loosen it up a bit I've gone for a polka dot pattern in the blouse which injects a bit of fun back into the outfit!
You know me and metallics, it's a love that will never die but unlike the day outfit I've chosen to team this look with silver accessories. I've picked out a chunky Heeled Mary Jane by Boohoo to add a little femininity to my outfit and I've stacked up silver, galactic studs in my ears for a very subtle bit of sparkle. The reason I decided on silver was because this outfit was crying out for red lips with silvery, grey tones just help to cool this down a touch and stick to the Vampish feel I was aiming for. Gold could work equally as well for this outfit but it would simply add a warmth I wasn't looking for. Overall you have yourself a really easy, kind of sophisticated (if I do say so myself) party outfit which says "hand me a Buck Fizz, I mean business".
What I really love about both of these looks is how simple they are. They really don't break any boundaries but it's the introduction of velvet which completely transforms them into something a little more stylish and a lot more festive. So why not treat yourself to a touch of luxe this Christmas... and every Christmas after that too! Embrace the cliche!
